Richmond is abundant in history and character. The town was named by Henry VII and the Tudor palace of Richmond was built here.
The project is involving as many local people as possible in discovering their Tudor heritage. The project commenced with an unveiling of an information board on Richmond Green at the 2001 May Fair. The information board is acting as a focal point and springboard for local community activities aimed at raising awareness and understanding.
The project is currently producing:
a Tudor re-enactment; three heritage presentations to the public by acknowledged experts on local Tudor history; an education programme for local children at the Museum of Richmond with an outreach element for people unable to visit the Museum. The Museum visits are being led by trained facilitators, who are interpreting Tudor material with the children through practical activities.
A "Tudor Discovery Box" is also being created which contains replica Tudor objects which can be used to explore many Tudor themes such as games, food and money.
