A Victorian Garden
Location: Southwark

In partnership with Southwark Council Green Team, market stall holders and the local Allotment Association, the children of Spa School will research the social, ecological and historical interest of Southwark Park. Through a "hands-on" approach, the children will investigate the planting techniques employed and the plant varieties grown during the Victorian period.

The Spa School, which is a school for special needs children, was also built during the Victorian period. The children will establish links between the school and the park, and how the park has changed since it was first designed and landscaped. The children will also develop a garden in the school grounds in order to demonstrate Victorian gardening methods.

Other project outputs will include the production of a Victorian gardening and recipe book. A Victorian fundraising event will be organised where the children will sell their produce to the local community. An exhibition will also be set up in the Southwark Park Cafe Gallery and in the School itself.
