Christ Church 150th Anniversary Musical
Location: Tower Hamlets

The children of St Luke's Primary School and Cryptics Youth Club performed the premiere of a musical entitled 'Transported: Travellers through time on the Isle of Dogs' on Sunday 21st November at St Luke's School to a packed house.

The event was the culmination of a wonderful day to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the building of Christ Church and many past clergy and members of the parish returned for a service, celebration lunch and the performance. The model of Christ Church which formed the main part of the set was created in an art project in the church involving pupils from Cubitt Town and Harbinger Schools.

The musical itself tells the story of 150 years of the Parish through story and song, from the building of Christ Church by William Cubitt in 1854 up to the present day recounting significant events in the life of the Isle of Dogs.

The musical charts the influence of the docks, both opening and closing, the effect of the war on Island and church life, the declaration of independence in the 70's and the development of Canary Wharf.
The music was composed by Simon Atkins and text by Sarah Walker.
