The original Lansbury Estate was built for the Festival of Britain in 1951 and is now a very deprived area. This is in stark contrast to the original vision of the Festival.
The project celebrated the 50th anniversary of the event through a year's programme of events and activities. These included a 1951 dance, a community festival, art exhibitions, carnivals and a festival history book.
The project also informed the population about the history of the Estate and it trained local people in giving informative presentations and guided tours.
The group worked for two years and had links to individuals and existing groups including the Methodist Church and the local school.
Local people were encouraged to attend history classes. They were also involved in providing artworks, reminiscences, photos and producing heritage booklets.
