Railways: Teesdales' Hidden Heritage
Location: Durham
Working with local people, school children and, in particular, adults with special needs from the Upper Dales area to capture, record and disseminate historical information relating to the introduction, development and demise of the railway.
Since the mid 1800’s until its closure in the mid 1960’s the railway has played a significant part in all aspects of Dales life. The group aims to record personal recollections and research historical records to produce interpretive material which will, for the first time, bring together information relating to the railway service.
Following an extensive programme of workshops covering topics such as oral history, researching techniques, textiles and traditional local crafts like quilting, the group will produce a textile panel, a booklet and an oral history record which will be exhibited at a number of local and regional venues.
