Sedgefield Heritage Trail
Location: Durham

Sedgefield is the Prime Minister’s constituency, and is in a conservation area. There is a strong sense of community. This project will develop a heritage trail around the town and involve local people and schoolchildren in a range of activities to research and interpret the history of the various landmarks that can be found on the route. The starting point will be the village pump, which is to be restored to its original appearance.

Two cast iron information lecturns will be erected at the start and half way point of the trail, with heritage plaques installed on buildings of historic note. An A5 heritage of Sedgefield booklet will be distributed to every household, and will be accompanied by 2 heritage trail leaflets (one aimed at adults and the other for children) containing maps of the route. A series of numbered bronze markers that reflect points on the trail map will direct people along the route. The group has sought professional advice from a conservation area specialist to ensure that work is in keeping with the character of the town.
