Wildflower Walks in the Lower Tees Valley
Location: Middlesborough

The project aims to improve awareness and knowledge of local wildflower diversity within their natural habitats by engaging with the general public and younger people in wildflower walks.

Working in conjunction with local Field Clubs, Natural History Societies, conservation groups and schools, ten wildflower walks of differing lengths, covering a range of habitats from woodland, coastal, moor and farm land will be identified. At least five walks will be accompanied by volunteer guides and at least two will be wheelchair accessible. A full colour brochure detailing species along the route a web site and a mobile exhibition illustrating the walks will be produced.

This work will be undertaken by volunteers with support and training from appropriate experts. To enable local naturalists to effectively pass on their knowledge to a wider audience, in particular young people, training in presentational skills will be delivered. Volunteers will also receive training in habitat maintenance and plant conservation. Walks will follow existing rights of way.
