Heritage Area at Newcastle Green Festival
Location: Newcastle Upon Tyne

Newcastle Community Green Festival was started in 1994 by students opposed to proposals for building on Leazes Park. It is an annual, free community festival offering positive solutions to environmental problems, as well as hands on arts, heritage and children's activities, music and cabaret.

The festival is run and managed by approximately 15 volunteer organisers and utlilises the voluntary input of approximately 60 volunteer stewards before, during and after the festival. The festival traditionally takes place during the first weekend of May.

The festival has two alternative technology powered music stages; a DJ/ dance area; a heritage crafts area; a solar powered cinema; information and trader stalls; a healing area; kids activity area; vegetarian food stalls; a bar and random performances. The climax of the festival is a fire show.

The 10th festival on 1st and 2nd May 2004 will also mark the official opening of the refurbished Leazes Park.
