Interpretation of the Rising Sun Country Park
Location: Newcastle Upon Tyne

The project proposes the creation and installation of interpretation panels throughout the park. Working with the local community, schools and Park user groups, natural and industrial characteristics of the area will be researched.

Information captured will be incorporated into instructive, interpretative panels which will be strategically placed across the 400 acre site at 17 locations. Design and art work for the panels will be carried out by a professional local artist in conjunction with school children. The park encompasses a variety of historical features such as the deepest coal mine in Europe, now redundant, an isolation hospital for infectious diseases and waggon ways which predate the introduction of steam railways.

It is also the habitat for nationally important flora and fauna including newts bats and other mammals. Interpretive works will increase and improve recreational and educational opportunities at the site.
