Heritage Group History
Location: Newcastle Upon Tyne

The Heritage Group is a sub-group of the Ouseburn Trust, a charity and development trust established in 1996 to ensure the sensitive regeneration of the Lower Ouseburn Valley ('built on the past and looking to a sustainable future')

The group has 6 long standing members, but has recruited another 8 volunteers thanks to this new archiving and heritage project.

The project aims to provide:
  • An online archive of image and community memoirs about the Ouseburn and its regeneration.
  • Public access computers, scanner, digital camera, laptop, projector and screen.
  • Four new heritage walks.
  • 4 new trained volunteer walk leaders.
  • 5000 leaflets about the group and heritage in the valley (for distribution).
  • 3 newsletters over 2006-2007.
Work has begun on devising a training programme for new walk leaders, with 1 volunteer shadowing the work of the group.

Work will commence on the 10th April on setting up the Ouseburn Heritage Archive using a group of 5 volunteers plus existing group member Steve Ellwood.

The group will start work on describing and cataloging our existing files and photographs and new archival information.
