The Great Storm of 1901
Location: North Tyneside

Between 12 - 15 November 1901, a great storm wrecked 46 ships between Berwick and the Tees. Two hundred sailors lost their lives.

The wreck of the largest ship, the Inga, lies close to the shore at Cullercoats, but it is unknown to local people. The project aims to make the story of the Inga better known.

It will cover the role of the Volunteer Life Brigade and local residents in the rescue attempts and explore and record the current state of the wreck.

The Project will involve local schools, produce a travelling exhibition, and arrange presentations, as part of wider community involvement.
