Maritime Archaeology Project is runner-up in History Channel Competition
Location: North Tyneside
December 2002
The Maritime Archeology Project (MAP), Tyne and Wear, has been announced as Runner-up in a national competition run by a joint collaboration between the History Channel and English Heritage.
The competition was set up in September 2001 to find the UK’s most successful group undertaking research on people, places and events. Entrants could use their family, community or locality as a basis for the research.
MAP fought off stiff competition from schools, youth groups and other organisations to come runner-up in the Adult section. The team won a digital camera, picnic rucksacks and certificates for all the members of MAP, plus £50 to spend in the English Heritage bookshop. The team went on to appear on a short video clip, after being filmed by The History Channel.
