Brinkburn & Hesleyhurst Millennium Stone
Location: Northumberland

The joint parishes of Brinkburn and Hesleyhurst have within them an area called Lordenshaws which has a number of ancient rocks with cup and ring marks. The area is of great achaeological interest both nationally and locally and has evidence of human habitation from the stone age onwards.

Many people in the joint parishes can trace their ancestry back to Border Reiver families. The members of this project are researching their family histories and learning about the past heritage of the area.

The project is placing a local stone in the parish which is being engraved with the names of the parishioners, and which reflects the rock carvings of Lordenshaws.

The project is also creating a web page which will link to the Coquetdale website. There is also work underway to place seating near the stone and to produce leaflets.
