Heddon On the Wall Heritage Centre Group
Location: Northumberland

The project is based at St Andrews Church in Heddon on the Wall, with the long term aim to open up and interpret the historic churches of northumberland. The opening of Hadrian's Wall Footpath has acted as a catalyst for developing the project further, as for many people Heddon on the Wall is the starting point for their walk.

The group volunteers have begun an ambitious project to photograph and display significant architectural features of the area, create a temporary exhibition and use local volunteers as guides to the heritage of the area. Ultimately, they would like to upgrade the display and provide education information to allow local people and visitors to experience for themselves the unique heritage of these precious cultural assets.

This is a development grant that will help the group to gain the skills with which to involve a wider section of the community, with the overall aim of planning a larger LHI project at a future date.
