The Brass Band Music of The Northumbrland Miners
Location: Northumberland
Continuing the brass band tradition of this coalfield area of Northumberland, bringing the musical heritage of the miners to a wider audience. Through this project, the band will show how brass bands formed an important part of the local community and will highlight the important role local musicians had in the development of brass bands nationally.
The LHI grant will mean free free tuition will be available for the junior and county youth bands and the band will be able to take part in competitions and give twelve free performances for charity, spreading awareness of the brass band tradition.
A website will detail the band's heritage and a recording will be made featuring the music of renowned local composer and band member John Carr, to be available on 1000 CDs.
