The Hareshaw Linn Play
Location: Northumberland

The Linn has had great importance as a meeting place in addition to its industrial heritage from coal and iron mining. Hareshaw Linn has a waterfall and a wooded valley. The project investigated and interpreted the customs and traditions of Hareshaw Linn.

The project then produced the "Sticks and Stones" play with the intention of making valued archive material more accessible. This also provided a way of informing local people of the importance of the Linn and encouraged them to use it.

The play was written from oral history research, historical documents and group discussions.

The project commissioned support from professionals, including a playwright, a director and musicians. The project also paid for the venue, publicity costs and a documentary video.
