The John Martin Heritage Trail
Location: Northumberland
John Martin was heavily influenced in his works by his childhood environment around his birthplace village of Haydon Bridge. Here he saw valleys, plains, rivers, gorges, floods, thunderstorms, castles, the architecture of the Roman Wall, and the industry of both coal and lead mining. These provided many of the characteristically awesome features of his great paintings
A new walk has been commissioned to allow Haydon Bridge visitors and residents to look at these areas in a new light with the benefit of information boards and a brochure.
Input was provided by Allendale Middle School pupils who were able to undertake workshops with Graphic Designer Marcus Byron and his associate Neil Dimont who specialise in the production of such information accessories.
The children were able to research the walk areas on field trips and continue mapping and photographic investigations in their classroom environment.
The final project now is completed and was officially opened on the 8th April 2006.
A .pdf version of the walk brochure can be downloaded free from www.visit-haydon-bridge.co.uk
