Cross Sundial Guisborough
Location: Redcar and Cleveland
The project proposes working with the local community and schools to research, record and disseminate information relating to a late C18th historic sundial situated on the market cross in the centre of the market square.
A local community group will manage the project which involves an element of professional restoration on this Grade II listed, unique, four faced sundial which incorporates a time keeping globe and weather vane.
Through a variety of media, residents will be invited to contribute their reminiscences and photographic evidence of the sundial and the contribution it has made to historical events which have taken place over the years in the market square.
This will be incorporated into an exhibition which will be housed in the local library and museum and a booklet. Interpretive panels will be designed and produced with the aid of the local secondary school. These will compliment other information panels already sited around the town.
