'A Walk Through Time'
Location: Stockton-On-Tees
The aim of the proposal is to interpret evolutionary heritage through creating a themed sculpture trail around the northern area of the Woodland Park. The trail will offer the visitor a "walk through time" with both regional and global events being portrayed on the walk. There will be 12 sculptures representing evolutionary changes that have occurred throughout Earth's history. They will be placed along the walk at intervals, the distance between each one will represent the time period over which the event occurred, distance will then become time. The sculptures will be made from local natural materials, although some items may need to be purchased. Recycled materials will be used wherever possible.
The community will be involved through workshops with experts from Tees Archaeology and the Tees Valley Wildlife Trust.
Artefacts boxes will show local examples.
A local special needs school will take part, information boards will explain the local relevance of evolutionary events.
The trail through time idea was voted on at a community consultation held in the park (2002). The local community was approached to find out what they would like to see emerge in the park; "the trail through time" was voted as one of the ideas they would like to see developed in the Woodland Park.
The trail will be launched at an open day with guided walk to raise awareness further.
