Location: Sunderland
During the course of the project we have been actively involved in taking photographs of every street in Southwick. We have also been conducting Oral Interview with people about their life and times in Southwick. We have had a project stand at several events in an effort to appraise people of our work, and to appeal for old photographs of Southwick, to compliment our archives.

Sunderland Local Heritage Forum
Venue: Sunderland University, St Peter's Campus

Held in 2004, the event was organised by Local Heritage Groups. Local speakers spoke about local subjects.


26 May 2005
Official opening of Austin House
Venue: Southwick

Austin House is a new community building in Southwick and we took along a selection of our photographs for visitors to view, and to appeal for other photographs. Amongs the visitors to the stand was SAMSON, the official mascot of Sunderland Association Football Club

Heritage Open Days
Venue: Holy Trinity Church, Southwick

As part of the Heritage Open Days, SHAPS was involved in the opening of the church and photographs from the project were displayed in the church.

Exhibition of Work
Venue: Sunderland City Library

An exhibition of photographs taken during the project were on display in the foyer of Sunderland City Library, Fawcett Street, sunderland between 3rd and 8th April inclusive.

Project Presentation
Venue: Southwick Community Centre

A presentation of the work carried out in the course of the project was given to the Mayor of Sunderland, distinguished and other invited guests. The presentation concluded with a buffet tea.

Project Open Day
Venue: Southwick Community Centre

A display of work undertaken during the project was made available to the people of Southwick and the community in general. To complement the event, a vintage bus provided guided tours of the Southwick area. Members of the public were able to view a Photographic slideshow, some old Cine Film from the 1960's and listen to some Oral history interviews, compiled by the project team. Copies of the booklet, A Photographic Census of Southwick, ball point pens and postcards, all produced by the project team, were available to visitors at no cost.
