Southwick Memories Revisited
Location: Sunderland
The Southwick Health & Community Forum has a wide range of members including residents of Southwick and professionals. Monthly meetings are held and provide a catalyst to galvanise community ideas and needs into actions. Older residents are concerned over how the community has changed since the mine and shipyard were active, so the group would like to explore their community’s history, discover their local environment and attract more members.
A series of workshops with local artists would involve children with the deign of a heritage page in a community newspaper. A programme of heritage walks would be held, reminiscence sessions would be held, with old photograph workshops held at community events. A facilitator would be appointed to work with all sections of the community to ensure all ages are able to participate in the project.
