Kerridge Ridge & Ingersley Vale Countryside & Heritage Project
Location: Cheshire

This project, run by local residents, is preserving and enhancing an area of countryside which is regarded as the local "hidden treasure".

A steering group of representatives of local groups and councils was set up to look at the possibilities of the area. The project initially undertook some research into land ownership, field boundary condition, existing ecological survey data and access potential. The group is now undertaking a phased programme of work.

Phase 1 is:

  • producing an historical account of the region;
  • a landscape character assessment;
  • ecological surveys;
  • planning a public consultation event which will lead to a management plan.
  • Phase 2 is:

  • restoring heritage features;
  • undertaking public consultation;
  • developing an educational trail with schools;
  • producing interpretation and practical environmental work to replant trees;
  • restoring drystone walls, hedges, and ponds.
