Restoration of Oughtrington Community Orchard
Location: Cheshire

The aim of the project is to restore and renew an orchard within Oughtrington, Lymm. The orchard will be managed using traditional methods as a community amenity, the aim being to provide a community park and nature reserve. As many as possible of the old fruit trees will be preserved with traditional varieties from the region also being planted. The ground will be cleared of weeds and non-native trees will also be removed. Research into the heritage of the local area to identify native fruit trees will be undertaken alongside the tracing of the history of the site and others in the area. Training will be given to local volunteers in basic pruning and maintenance and regular events will take place to share the practical and heritage knowledge with the wider community. A website will be created and various items of promotional material such as leaflets and information boards will be produced .
