Roman Northwich 2004
Location: Cheshire

The aim of this project is to highlight the presence of a series of Roman forts to residents and visitors via a trail, guidebook, website and events, and to raise awareness of Roman history among people living in the area via lectures, educational visits, re-enactments and workshops.

The project will be launched by a Roman Festival weekend close to the site, a key aim of this event is to give people a taste of life in the area in Roman times and to recruit more people for the project.

There will be a series of events over the year to engage people and generally raise awareness about the local Roman heritage of the area. An action group will carry out research and create interpretative art works, information boards, plaques, an exhibition and displays.

The research will be used to create a “virtual museum” archive for public use, a school resource box, a guidebook and a dedicated website. They also hope to recruit and train volunteer guides for the trail.
