The Anderton Story
Location: Cheshire

The project is helping local school children and community groups investigate and interpret the industrial and natural heritage of the site which is now known as Anderton Nature Park. The group involves Comberbach Primary School in research with local historical and waterways societies and local museums.

The project has attracted the interest and involvement of local people with detailed knowledge of the site who have been interviewed by the children.

Professional artists have been involved to stimulate interest about the site through storytelling, comparing past and present photography and theatre workshops based on local history. Guided walks and talks have been held to examine historical clues and present-day interest.

A series of events and activities including tapestry-making, poetry workshops and visual arts workshops and associated follow-up sessions have created a permanent installation on site and raised awareness of local heritage.

A touring exhibition of the work will be held and a CD-ROM/video will be produced and distributed locally. Webpage links will be made to existing websites and a celebration event will unveil the permanent installations.

A boat trip in May of 2003 involved children doing interviews with people who work on the River Weaver
