The Hale Duck Decoy Gamekeepers Cottage
Location: Cheshire
The duck decoy is a Scheduled Ancient Monument, recently restored with an HLF grant, publicly accessible for the first time and sited in a Nature Reserve. The group wishes to make use of the Gamekeeper’s Cottage on site to interpret it to the new visitors. The group intends to offer interview training and record people’s memories of the site, hold workshops, and place the information in an information pack , for use in the cottage after visitors have walked around the Decoy.
A display in the form of a ‘History Tree’ and bench will be erected outside, which will depict different aspects of the Decoy’s history. A further display of local memories and events will be placed on the internal walls of the cottage. A leaflet, photographic CD and four information boards will also be produced and information gathered will be placed on the web pages of both the Duck Decoy and Halton’s Learning Grid. A series of guided walks and talks will be held to raise awareness of the site. The walks, and the site works, will be carried out in line with the site management plan, in order to minimise disturbance to wildlife on this SSSI site.
