Alston Branch 150th Anniversary
Location: Cumbria

The southern section of the Haltwhistle to Alston branch of the Newcastle and Carlisle railway opened in 1852, leading to local industrial development.

The group is preparing to celebrate the 150th anniversary. The project is preparing events to raise awareness of the area's industrial heritage. Plans include a ceremony in 19th century dress at Alston station with special coal and passenger trains.

The following weekend a coal train will run with costumed staffing and a bus excursion will follow the full length of the original line. A family weekend will follow.
