Beckermet - A Record Of Local History
Location: Cumbria
The group wish to research the history of the village of Beckermet, a unique village, as it has three parish boundaries, on the West Coast of Cumbria.
The history of the village goes back to the Saxon/Viking days and the group wish to research this alongside all aspects of local history and life including the impact of the Nuclear Industry on the area as the village is very close to the Sellerfield Nuclear site.
Local children will photograph their favourite historical sites with the information developed into a book, copies of which will be given free of charge to every household and placed in local libraries and Record Office. The group also wish to create an archive in the village so that the information can be made available to the wider public. Archive material will also be offered to the county archivist and local library. The project will culminate with an annual exhibition to showcase the children’s photographs and launch of the book as well as to engender village cohesiveness
