Brough with Stainmore Heritage Project
Location: Cumbria

The project aims to get local people involved in investigating the heritage of the Brough with Stainmore area and in particular, how and why the settlements developed as they did. The research will be used to develop a range of fully researched, integrated heritage interpretation materials for public display i.e. exhibition, interpretative panels, walking guides and a website.

The aim is to create a fuller understanding of the local heritage, foster the care and protection of the special assets of the area and raise the profile of the area for the benefit of the local community and visitors. The project will involve residents of all ages in the management, planning, research, development and delivery and will use Heritage Open Days in September, centred on Brough Castle, to launch each new stage of the project. In addition local people and schools will receive copies of publications, benefit from expert input through programmed talks and tours and take part in and lead the guided walks events. Children will also be involved in a Hidden treasures trail.
