Broughton School - A History
Location: Cumbria
Broughton Primary School will celebrate its 125th anniversary in 2007. Over the years many changes have occurred to the buildings, its educational role and its role within village life. The group wish to celebrate the anniversary by producing a CD and book detailing the history of the school and the emergence of local education as well as a brief history of the villages Great and Little Broughton. Former pupils and staff will be asked to contribute their memories and knowledge through writing or recording their contributions. The project will trigger an interest in history amongst the local community and the pupils about their school and parish, and will assist with the preservation of the village heritage and traditions. The project will commence with a launch event promoted to attract the widest possible community engagement and will culminate in a celebration which will mark the publication of interpretive material and facilitate the bringing together of all contributors with an exhibition of their research findings.
