Burneside - Preserving our Heritage
Location: Cumbria
A local resident of Burneside left a large collection of original material relating to the Burneside area and its institutions to another local, who wishes to raise local awareness of the material. This can be accessed from John Shiels A heritage group of local residents has been set up so that the community can get involved in cataloguing the collection. They will hold exhibitions and talks and create a booklet and CD that will feature scanned and printed photographs of the originals. These photos will also be available on a village web site.
The group will work with local children to uncover the schools history and seek interest from the community for the project.
A further element developed. This will involve local people and children in surveying and recording the trees of the Parish. The findings will be published in a booklet .
A large part of the project costs are for equipment, but this is deemed necessary to allow the group to deliver the production of the digital aspects of the project in house, including the CD-ROM.
The original material has been deposited with the County Record Office after advice from the LHI adviser and the group will receive training and assistance from an archivist and photographer as part of the project to ensure that the outputs and the catalogue are of high quality.
