Clifton Industrial Heritage Project & Festival
Location: Cumbria

The project aims to research the now redundant heavy industry of Clifton. Children from the local primary school will work with the local history group, residents and a re-enactment professional, to understand what everyday life was like for people who relied on heavy industry for their livelihoods, circ 1900, including a trip to a local mining museum. An oral history of local industrial heritage with specific reference to local mining and brickworks will be undertaken. A re-enactment professional will work with the children to bring to life the everyday hardships of this era.

An interpretative mosaic will be created during community and school workshops, as part of a memorial to the people of the village who lost their lives as a result of working in heavy industry. A festival and exhibition will then be held in the village hall to present the re-enactment and written work carried out. A booklet will be presented to local people at this event.
