Crosby Ravensworth's Living Churchyard
Location: Cumbria

The project will involve CWT working with the Crosby Ravensworth community in managing their churchyard for wildlife. The group will hold survey and identification training days (focusing primarily on flora) for local people. A report will be produced from the results to advise the community on good management practice that they can deliver for the future.

Materials will be purchased to enhance the church grounds for wildlife e.g. for planting, bird or bat boxes, feeders etc. Two discovery days will be held within the church network, with different themes – either different heritage themes e.g. built, natural and social heritage or different wildlife themes such as bats in belfries or wildflowers. The aim is to attract all sections of the community. An educational session at the local school will take place exploring the environmental and cultural history of the church.

An inset training session for teachers from other local schools will take place for them to work with other churches in the same way. An indoor mobile interpretation display, fliers and leaflets will be produced as well as two talks to local community groups and a seminar to involve those interested in the project from outside the project community.
