Egremont Mediaeval Heritage
Location: Cumbria

The project is exploring the mediaeval history of this area by means of researching and hands on experiences of life during the period. Specialist mediaeval groups are assisting.

A series of participatory events are taking place and these are based around living history villages. This is in order to bring the mediaeval history of the area to life and make it accessible to the widest possible local audience.

Demonstrations of minting, cooking, and medicine are taking place, as well as archers etc. The range of associated mini-projects involved includes children researching mediaeval toys and games and plays depicting local legends and stories such as the granting of the market charter.

A youth activities pack is encouraging children to become 'house detectives'. A similar pack is being developed for adults.

The main event is a self-guided tour of the castle. A series of talks and workshops are also taking place and a website is being developed.
