Fleece
Location: Cumbria
The project proposes the creation of an exhibition based on a series of artistic hangings produced by residents of the Eden Valley. Working with a professional artist, groups such as the WI, Sunday schools, youth groups and others will identify an aspect of rural life which has significance for them and through a number of workshops will then transform their theme into a piece of art work which will be combined with others to create an exhibition. A minimum of 15 individual items will contribute to the final composition. A variety of crafting techniques such as quilting, collage and felting will be used. The final product will then tour a variety of locations in the area to promote local crafts and demonstrate the heritage of the area. In addition, the group will create a collection of photographs of local crafts, skills etc. that will not have appeared in the hangings and produce a booklet which will provide a permanent record of the work. A web site will be established to allow participants and other to comment on the project.
