Hidden People, Hidden Paths: Low Furness Timescape
Location: Cumbria
Historical and archaeological research has revealed a previously unsuspected time depth to Low Furness communities, centred on evidence for an early Christian Church with Roman-period settlement origins. The group wishes to use this as a launching vehicle to give local people opportunities to tell their own stories of, and interpret evidence for, their families and ancestors in the Furness landscape.
Firstly the group wishes to develop a high quality heritage pack and guided walks leaflets, and an exhibition on the ground floor of the Belfry of their local church. This will incorporate family and life stories gained through workshops attended by local people. Secondly volunteers will be trained to act as Low Furness Timescape Walk Guides – to guide people around the Urswick landscape on heritage trails that the group will devise, research, test and publish.
