Keswick to Penrith Milestone Restoration
Location: Cumbria
The group wishes to restore five milestones considered at risk on the Keswick to Penrith turnpike route. Proposed works include some ground clearance, plaque replacement and masonry reparation. The group will keep a photographic record of the work undertaken which will provide the basis for a small mobile exhibition, leaflets and a CD ‘Power-point’ presentation in order to raise awareness of these artefacts within the local communities within which they are situated. Publicity materials will be produced and events will be held in an endeavour to increase public awareness. The group also aims to have as many possible listed as monuments of national importance.
