This Phase 2 bid proposes to increase local awareness and enjoyment of the heritage of Cartmel Fell and the Winster Valley. The group will involve local people in researching, testing and publishing a collection of 12 'Heritage Walks'. Each guide will contain maps and route-finding advice, as well as information about local heritage. It will also make use of some of the material collected during Phase 1.
Local people will research each walk and prepare notes for the guide. Other groups will 'road test' the walks, together with schools which will also be invited to base projects on aspects of the area's heritage.
The guides will each be presented in a waterproof format. They will be accompanied by a 48 page booklet introducing the geology and landscape of the area, its natural and industrial history and its heritage of places and events. They will all be presented in a robust wallet.
The completion of the project will be celebrated with an open air 'Heritage Day'. This will include public participation in old country crafts, skills and games at a site near the centre of the area of the walks.
