Millom Folk Museum's Audio-Visual Heritage Project
Location: Cumbria

The group intends to explore the cultural aspects of Millom’s iron heritage by engaging the local community in a series of community events and workshops. Initially these will focus on oral history sessions and photo identification.

Information gathered will then be used by volunteers to produce a booklet of memories, as well as a leaflet and a website. Local schools will be involved in the development of an Interactive Whiteboard to be housed in the Museum, which will aim to make the Museum more interesting to young people. Accessible Museum Open Days will be held with guided walks and local craft demonstrations, culminating in an old fashioned ‘Street Party’, themed on the iron heritage to maximise community awareness of the project (food not being funded by LHI). A video/DVD will be made of the events as a lasting record of the activities, which will then be included in the menu offered on the Whiteboard for future users.
