The project is restoring a patch of farmland which has been purchased by the parish council for community use. The land reflects the rich natural and cultural heritage of the area around Orton which was very badly affected by Foot and Mouth disease.
Phase 1 of the project is undertaking site survey work and initial restoration work of an area of former species-rich limestone grassland. It is also protecting a limestone-fed stream and restoring distinctive landscape features.
The project is making these features available to everyone via new 'Access for All' paths.
Workshops that will demonstrate countryside management skills are being held and a video is being produced.
Much of the project's work is being carried out by local volunteers.
