Restoration of Cast Iron Road Signs - Dalston
Location: Cumbria

The Parishioners of Dalston are investigating the meaning of local names on the old road signs in the Parish. They will record how the names have changed over the years, and restore the remaining forty Cast Iron Roadsigns in the Parish.

The group will survey the signs and produce an inventory of their condition. They will also research and record the history of the signs and sign making.

Many of the signs need restoring and repainting. Volunteers will help to restore and repaint the signs in traditional colours where possible.

As part of the restoration process, local children will be given demonstrations on sign making.
