RNAD Heritage Project
Location: Cumbria

The aim of the project is to record and preserve the memories and impact of the Royal Naval Arms Depot site in Broughton Moor, West cumbria on the local community though its opening, working life and eventual closure.

The outputs of the project will be:

A CD, tracing the history of the site and local area, recording memories of people who worked on the site and lived in the villages.

An anecdotal history of the villages, comprising interesting stories and humorous memories to be written by and for local people, with help from local historians and writers.

The group will also record the dialect, stories and sayings of the local area onto a CD and booklet, with translations for non-Broughtonians.

A series of site tours will be organised and 10 people will be trained to give up to 10 mini bus tours of the site using people with a link to the site. These will look at natural history, the area’s history and its land use.

Four open days will be organised, these will show the areas that the group is working on, where they are with the project and hopefully get more people involved. Each open day will be themed – A Children’s Open/Fun day, a Heritage Day, a launch of the site tours programme and a project completion and exhibition day with the launch of the products created by the group.
