The Archaeological Heritage of Muncaster Castle
Location: Cumbria
The Project follows a Development Phase completed in August 2005. The group wishes to explore the phases of development of the buildings at Muncaster.
They will work with English Heritage Experts to undertake a detailed expert survey of the buildings with close reference to the archive materials found by volunteers during the development phase, and further archival research to be carried out by local volunteers.
The results will be interpreted and made accessible to the wider local community through the production of a booklet as well as via the group’s own website. The results and a technical report will be used to guide the future direction of future archaeological investigations at Muncaster. Open meetings will be held to encourage local community involvement, as well as a workshop on analysing and recording local buildings. Local schools will visit to encourage the students to interpret and appreciate their local built environment. An event will be held to launch the publication of the report and to celebrate the achievements of the project.
