Water vole trapping at Alston, September 2004
Location: Cumbria

In September 2004, a researcher from Oxford University visited Alston to live-trap water voles at two sites. She was checking the voles for the presence of parasites such as ticks and fleas (our voles were squeaky clean!) and whether they were carrying any diseases that might have contributed to their national decline. All of the voles were looked after with the utmost care and many came straight back into the traps after we released them!
