Carwood Lane Restoration
Location: Lancashire

This project undertook research into the route of a historic pathway, close to quarries and the Lancaster Canal, with important links to the local quarrying heritage.

Local people could be involved in several ways. Some would work with specialists to restore a 100m length of stone wall along the path, and repair revetments. Seating would be provided along the route as part of a school design competition. Local residents would be interviewed about their memories of how the footpath was used, its associated network, and surrounding heritage features.

After investigating whether the original surface remained, the project hoped either to reinstate or resurface it to provide partial disabled access.

As well as improving the physical condition of the route, the project would make the information gathered available on an interpretation board erected at the site, in a leaflet, and on the local authority's web site.
