Eccleston Blossoms
Location: Lancashire
Eccleston has a mixed heritage but before the introduction of the cotton mills it was predominantly a fruit growing area, supplying fruitiers all over the County. Remnants of these orchards are still present within the village.
Creative Minds is a new group that has developed from a previous LHI project (Eccleston Heritage Trail NW00609). The group wishes to expand on the research done in this project by collating additional data about other orchards and apple trees in Eccleston, that have come to light since the first project.
The group intends to train in research techniques, do further research and take photos of the remaining trees. They intend to hold a series of workshops run by professional consultants and artists to interpret the research, organize an exhibition and produce a book.
The book will give a unique snapshot of local orchards and how they and the village have developed over the years. The group will collate exhibits through their research and the workshops. They will hold a two-day Apple Festival to launch the book.
