Veterens 60th Anniversary Normandy Landing
Location: Lancashire

To research and celebrate the impact of World war Two on the local community and educate and inform about the sacrifices which were made and the conditions families at home had to live in. A range of local groups from the local veterans associations to the community centre and local schools will undertake research about different aspects of life during World War Two. For example the community centre is researching the blackout and its effect on local people. The project will lead to a three-day festival.

An exhibition (£2,000) will be held showing the different groups’ work, with a range of reenactments including a battle re-enactment, dance demonstrations, fashion shows and entertainment of the times and culminating with a service at the Cenotaph (£11,385). Material from the project will be placed onto the group’s web site and a booklet (£6,000) about this period of local history and a CD-ROM (£1,000) of the project will be produced. The booklet will be made available to local people.
