St. Peters Community Heritage Project
Location: Liverpool
The school environmental group will work with a specialist worker and local community groups and historians, to research aspects of the heritage of the area. Workshops and sessions will use the information produced to develop a booklet, exhibitions and web pages.
Open days and trips to relevant sites will be held and an outdoor community heritage resource will be constructed. The latter will be made up of 6 resin-topped information benches that will each contain an individual heritage theme, based on the topics around local customs and traditions of the area. Each bench will also contain an information board to provide an explanation of the objects presented. Particular emphasis will be placed on the industrial heritage of the area where pioneering developments were made that changed the landscape of the North West.
Information concerning the school itself will also be investigated as well as plant and insect life present in the local area and the way energy generation has changed. The benches will be placed in a landscaped area, which will aim to attract wildlife. The construction of this area will involve the local college as well as community groups.
