A Celebration of Bury
Location: Manchester

The aim of the project is to work with the largest of the three diverse communities in Bury, the indigenous, Asian and Jewish communities.

A three part project will be delivered which will interpret the varied aspects of life encountered within each community with the aim of increasing understanding. A handbook, incorporating personal reminiscences, documentation, and historical data will be produced and made widely available. Additionally a ‘suitcase’ project has been devised which will offer migrant families the opportunity to collate and display the significant items which featured in their settlement in Bury.

Original documentation, clothes, personal memorabilia, etc will be gathered and the 20 suitcases created will then provide the focus for a launch event and exhibition at the local library. Photography and project information will also be featured on the CVS website. Ultimately the aim of the three activities is to illustrate how people have adopted, adapted and contributed to Bury’s customs and traditions. The activities will bring together all communities to celebrate the positive contributions made by people over the years.
