Memories of Moston Vale
Location: Manchester

Moston Vale is part of the Newlands Community Woodlands Scheme, to regenerate brownfield sites into green spaces for the whole community. Moston Vale was a landfill site and is still thought of as a ‘tip’. The project will raise awareness of the former history of the site (dye works, fever hospital, school) and involve the community in collecting historical knowledge from their own and past generations’ experiences and knowledge.

A series of workshops and oral history sessions will be held, and archive research carried out. A CD and booklet will be produced. The NBS award will cover the cost of a curriculum related education pack covering waste management and conflicting site usage as well as history and nature for use in a series of 6 school sessions.
